Hazard Management

Hazards are inherent in the field of Engineering, where high voltages and powerful chemicals are required for everyday research. Hazard Management is a broad field encapsulating a number of areas which, combined, assist in minimising or managing the necessary hazards within the School.

High Storage

high storage

High Storage is a storage area greater than 1.8m above the ground.  Storing items in high storage areas is not recommended, however many areas throughout the School do have areas of high storage such as the tops of cupboards and bookcases. In some cases using these areas is unavoidable.

If you do need to access items stored in a high storage area it is important to use an approved step ladder or step stool. DO NOT use a regular chair in your office - accidents have previously occurred within the School when office chairs have been used for this purpose.

Step ladders / stools are available from the following locations:

  • NG07 (Workshop)
  • N245
  • I2.26 (photocopier room)
  • I3.26 (staff utilities room)

Please return these items to their proper location after use. If you require any assistance reaching an item please contact the workshop on 35301.

Contractor Management

It is important that all contractors engaged to work at the School are given proper OHS&W induction and complete a Job Safety Analysis (JSA) for the work they will engage in. If you need to engage any contractors you must contact the School Health and Safety Officer to ensure this process is properly completed.

See the HSW Handbook for more information about the requirements of contractors.
