Health and Safety Officer

The Health and Safety Officer (HSO) is a liaison officer between management, health and safety representatives, employees, students, committee members and the OHS&W Unit on health and safety matters and should be your first point of contact for any health, safety and well-being issues. The overwhelming majority of issues are able to be quickly and professionally resolved at this level, however should you be dissatisfied with the resolution you can contact the Health and Safety Representative listed on this page.

The HSO does not assume any of the manager’s or supervisors' responsibilities and the incumbent has no legal accountability for OHS&W of staff and students in the area.

Health and Safety Representative

The Helath and Safety Representative (HSR) has wide-ranging legal rights, functions and powers to assist them to carry out their role effectively. Employers cannot discriminate against health and safety representatives for performing any of their functions

The HSR can act as your representative to management regarding a health and safety issue you may be facing as well as a number of other functions. See Section 32 of the OHS&W Act for more information about the role of the HSR.

Chief Warden

The Chief Warden for each building is in charge of the overall safety of occupants within that building. This role normally only becomes active during evacuations and emergencies, however you can consult the Chief Warden regarding any safety issues in your building.

First Aiders

The School has a number of trained First Aiders. Their role is to render immediate assistance to those in need of first aid and to co-ordinate further medical treatment if required. By law, First Aiders are required to maintain a record of each and every injury or incident they treat, so please co-operate with this requirement should you ever require first aid treatment.

Emergency Procedures placards located in common spaces (such as stairwell lobbies) advertise the closest first aiders.
